OpenECG
OpenECG was a European digital health network concerned with the exchange of computerized electrocardiograms between devices and health information systems. It brought together technical and clinical participants around ECG standards, shared tools and interoperability testing, with documented participation beyond Europe.

Network and funded project
The European Commission records the Computerized ECG Standards Interoperability Portal under grant IST-2001-37711. Its funded project ran from 1 July 2002 to 30 June 2004 as a thematic network, coordinated by the Foundation for Research and Technology–Hellas in Greece, with participants in Germany, Italy, Denmark and Spain.
The coordinator’s project record identifies the promotion of consistent ECG standards as the central aim. The coordinator’s address is not presented here as proof of a separate legal headquarters for the international network.
Historical technical resources
An OpenECG brochure carrying January 2006 membership figures documents activity beyond the original funding period. It describes support for SCP-ECG implementation, sample data, software tools, format conversion and conformance testing, alongside discussion groups and technical workshops.
The brochure places the network’s contact point at the Institute of Computer Science–FORTH in Heraklion, Crete. These are historical resources and contact arrangements; their continued availability is not established by the surviving document.

Colorado EKG Repository connection
Colorado EKG Repository’s About page, revised in January 2008, identifies that project as part of the OpenECG network. This is a dated statement of network affiliation, not evidence that the two entities were the same organization, shared ownership or jointly operated a clinical service.

Further health reading
ECG recordings are used when a heart attack is suspected. This gives a clinical example of why interoperable ECG information mattered to the historical OpenECG project.
Atrial fibrillation illustrates the use of ECG to assess heart rhythm. This guide adds clinical background to OpenECG’s historical standards work.
ECG can contribute to an assessment that also uses other tests for heart failure. This overview places ECG technology in a broader clinical setting.
