Long-term acute hospital care
Bethesda’s official location page describes patients who are seriously ill but stable and need ongoing hospital-level support. Its clinical scope includes respiratory and ventilator management, complex wounds, severe brain injuries, organ failure and other conditions with prolonged medical effects. Patients may later return home or transfer to a setting providing a different level of care.
Services listed at the hospital include laboratory testing, monitoring, radiology, pharmacy and dialysis. Physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists and other specialists work alongside physical, occupational and speech therapists. This combination describes continuing acute medical care and rehabilitation; it does not make Bethesda a general residential senior living organization.

Relocation within Saint Paul
In March 2020, the health system converted Bethesda’s former North Capitol Boulevard building into a hospital dedicated to COVID-19 care. M Health Fairview’s account, published in May 2024, explains that the long-term acute care hospital was relocated to downtown Saint Paul while the former site served a different purpose.
That account distinguishes the continuing Bethesda hospital from its old building, which was subsequently removed to make way for a mental health hospital development. The new location is within what became the Fairview Community Health and Wellness Hub. The current official directory gives its address as 45 West 10th Street.
A historical arts and health connection
A December 2014 Midwest Arts in Healthcare Network announcement named Bethesda Hospital’s Gallery Cafe as a proposed venue for alternating monthly meetings in 2015. Hennepin County Medical Center was the other named host location. The notice documents Bethesda’s place in that local arts-and-health network’s planning at the time.
The announcement is a historical connection, not a current events calendar or evidence that the old cafe remains at the relocated hospital. Present hospital location and service information come from M Health Fairview’s own location page and relocation account.
